Finished hiking the Jordan Trail: I am a broken man

Hiking pants from Jordan Trail

After all the falling I’ve done on the Jordan Trail, the back of my pants were ripped and torn. Here I found another great use for Gorilla Tape.

I feel like a broken man. The sun has bleached me both physically and emotionally. I woke up this morning and stared at the ceiling for a couple of hours in a vegetative state. I watched television for another 4 hours.

My feet hurt, my toes don’t bend correctly, my knees ache, my back is sore, my lips are cracked and dry, while my shoulders are rubbed raw from carrying the weight of all the water.

What I’ve accomplished hasn’t even started to sink in yet. Hiking the Jordan Trail is one of the hardest things I’ve done, yet I feel I’ve gotten to know the people of Jordan, especially the shepherds and Bedouins. They are proud of their heritage and, although I think they live a hard life, most wouldn’t trade it for any other. Hamdone owns a comfortable house in a village but he can seldom be found there. He’s much more likely to be somewhere out in the desert with his herd of camels wandering around the wadis, marveling at the ever changing colors of sandstone mountains, or sleeping on his mat under the stars.
