Mountain bike trails

In the winter, Breckenridge is a ski town. In the summer, it’s all about biking. The ski trails open for cyclists when the snow is gone, making for some seriously challenging biking. Take the ski lifts up, and test your ability on the way down.

Whether you are novice or expert, whether you like to enjoy calm nature or you want to experience the wild side of nature, there is the right track for you. From so many to choose from, your satisfaction is will not be lacking.

The town of Breckenridge has a great map of mountain bike trails here – it’s a big file, so will take some time to download. It’s worth it, trust me.

Peaks Trail

One of the most popular routes is the 8.5-mile Peaks Trail from Breckenridge to Frisco. Starting in downtown Breckenridge, you’ll climb for the first three miles. Just before starting the downhill segment, you’ll find a beautiful overlook. The final six miles are challenging, with some technical spots due to roots and rocks. There are wooden bridges across all streams.

If you are up for a challenge, start in Frisco, and bike up the hill.

Flumes Trails

The Flumes Trails are three flumes that run north to south. Lower and Middle flumes are located in the Highlands residential area. It’s a great place for beginner mountain bikers.

For a seven-mile single-track loop, go south along the lower flume, then connect to the upper flume. That trail will feed into the middle flume and then onto Mike’s trail and back down to the Lower Flume to complete the loop.

Baker Tank Loop

The 5-mile Baker Tank Loop route starts just a few miles from Breckenridge, up Boreas Pass Road. The trail is just technical enough to make it interesting, but not so much that you’ll have to carry your bike over the more technical parts.

You’ll reach a large wooden water tank after climbing for about 45 minutes. At that point, follow the moderately technical singletrack into the woods on a nice, relaxing trail. The final stretch is a very narrow trail, littered with roots and rocks, and will take you back to your car in the parking lot.
