Pictures cannot capture the vastness and the depth of this wonderful desert wilderness. You can actually see Wadi Mujib just not the bottom of it.
If yesterday was a descent of hellacious proportions today was an ascent of the same proportions. After 2400 feet of steep climbing I looked down from the canyon rim of Wadi Mujib at the barren desert mountains. The canyons were so vast and deep it actually made me dizzy. The view was amazing, easily rivaling the Grand Canyon. All morning I struggled slowly out of the wadi. When I finally made it out it was afternoon. Thank goodness it was cool, windy, and cloudy. If it had been hot, the climb would have been much harder.
The rest of the section was very easy and I made good time over roads that were relatively flat.
When I got to the end of the section it was cold and very windy. I mean gale force winds. There was no way I could set up a tent in that wind so I flagged down a mini bus going to Karak where I got a hotel room for the night. Tomorrow I’ll reverse hike the section between Karak and Majdalein leaving my pack in the hotel. It shouldn’t take me long at all to do this section.
