Hiking through the godforsaken mountain range on rocky terrain
If yesterday inflated my spirit, today deflated it. The day was extremely difficult. It started out with rock fields to traverse. All the time I had to climb down into and out of countless small wadis on rocky terrain. Then I had to climb over a high, rugged mountain. The climb went on for miles with hardly a trail and plenty of huge rocks as obstacles. It was hot with hardly a breeze. I slipped and fell numerous times. A few times I grabbed onto a thorny plant. Ouch! I hiked a good 10 hours and only got 8 miles in. That’s how slow going it was.
After I set up camp, I was famished and looked forward to a nice meal. As I was eating my tuna and cheese sandwich I discovered my bread was moldy. Oh well, I couldn’t throw it away so I just ate it. The only satisfaction I got today was killing a few flies out of the many that pestered me all day long.
The rugged desert mountains and deep wadis were spectacular but a major chore to climb and traverse. The area was so remote I didn’t see a single person all day.
Last night I slept without a rainfly over my tent. It was nice to stare at the stars. Tonight I’ll do the same.

Camping in Wadi Malaga

The desert in Jordan goes on and on and on and on…

The rocky desert I had to hike over for miles and miles on the Jordan Trail
